Debbie Fitzgerald is the February 2025 Chapter Champion

Feb. 3, 2025

Our February 2025 Chapter Champion, Debbie Fitzgerald, has spent a lifetime developing her storytelling skills. As a kid she would create her own newspapers using a large piece of paper, a pencil to draw pictures and design mastheads, a ruler and a vivid imagination to write creative stories. Then she’d carefully fold the paper and deliver the “news” to audiences that mattered most.

In elementary school, Debbie convinced her sixth-grade teacher to assign a video project to the class and offered her wind-up camera as equipment. In high school, she executed one of her first campaigns — to become senior class treasurer — and won. Later that year, she wrote a gossip column for the local newspaper about the social happenings at her school.

Debbie continued developing her craft in college at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA. While earning a Bachelor of Science in business administration, she devoted many hours to the theater department — both behind the scenes and on stage. She earned a minor in theater and also declared a concentration in marketing.

With dreams of a career in the entertainment business, Debbie moved to Los Angeles and worked with celebrities at a talent agency, at a television production company (animation and game shows), and with a comic book company. It was there she discovered the art of public relations. Soon after, she sought and landed a job at a PR firm.

In 2002, Debbie moved to Georgia with her family and founded Fitzgerald PR Inc. As president and CEO, Debbie is still passionate about telling a good story and sharing the latest news. She does that by utilizing her extensive background to produce quality deliverables.

A PRSA member since 2002, she is now co-chair of PRSA Georgia’s Independent Counselors resource group, a role she has held twice before. She rolled off a two-year term on the chapter’s board of directors in 2016 after serving as Phoenix Awards chair, and other volunteer roles.

Debbie co-authored the award-winning book, “Megaphones Be With You: How Your Organization Can Play the Media Relations Game—And Win.” Read more in this Voyage Atlanta feature.

Thank you, Debbie, for your dedication to PRSA Georgia!
